Hall of Fame #30

As the Beve Trophy’s resident darts expert, Derek has only agreed to take part in the tournament to meet the legendary Tony O’Shea. Derek’s short game and rigorous pre-tournament training schedule mean that he’ll be a handy team-mate, but it should be noted that he’s had more 180s on the golf course than the dartboard..

Beve Trophy Rating:
Will be aiming for the trebles and doubles

Derek with Beve

The proudest man at BT2K9!

We were very generous in letting Derek have a third go when recording this.

My Beve Profile

Name

Derek Hoy aka The Machine

Favourite Beve Moment

Marching proudly off the course in 2009 knowing me and the enigmatic Mr Goldie had guaranteed at least a draw for Team Rush and knowing victory was a foregone conclusion.  I might be pish, but I’d made my contribution and was proud of it!

Worst Beve Moment

My tee shot at the first in 2009.  As the last man to tee off I watched everybody before me at least make a decent connection and make some headway.  I scuffed it about 20 yards along the ground and into the rough.  My head sunk and I had a disastrous first hole.

Your Best Shot in the Beve

My tee shot at the par 3 8th in the morning greensomes last year.  Landed it beautifully within about 12 ft.  (I won’t mention that we then three putted and failed to take the hole, which proved to be a blow we could not recover from.)

Best Shot by an opponent

Seriously?  I can hardly remember any of my own shots never mind my opponents’!

Toughest Beve Opponent

Adam Lee. Very steady performer.

Favourite Beve Story

Has to be seeing my friend, colleague and legendary Beve performer Stephen McGill, staggering onto the first tee with minutes to spare. Still drunk from the night before, having had barely any sleep, and having spunked a king’s ransoms on taxi fares just to get there – he creams easily the best first drive of the day straight down the middle of the fairway.

Ten pints of Guinness - £30.  Night at the casino – probably several hundred.  Taxi to the course £50.  Best first drive of the day – priceless.

Sum up the Beve in one word

Pinnacle.
