Goldie/Hoy (Team Rush) beat Cook/Lee (Team Tonner) 3&2
The enigmatic Team Rush combo of crafty veteran Jim Goldie and promising newcomer Derek Hoy produced an outstanding display of teamwork to see off a spirited display from their Team Tonner counterparts. Hoy produced some of his best golf to date on the front 9, starting with an impressive par at the first. As Goldie struggled to find his best form in the early part of the match, the elegant rookie kept his side in it with a sterling display to fend off the relentless consistency of Team Tonner stalwart Lee.
Goldie did show flashes of his undoubted brilliance on the front 9 though and came to the fore after the turn as Hoy’s form dipped with the pressures of a first Beve appearance beginning to take their toll. Despite Lee’s unerring battle hardiness he was unable to stop the red shirted pair from securing a memorable victory at the lengthy 16th thanks to more good work from Goldie, and Team Rush were guaranteed at least a half in the 2009 Beve Trophy.
This victory will long be upheld as the benchmark for team spirit and togetherness and summed up the qualities that helped ensure that Team Rush would be the first ever outright holders of the most sought after prize in golf.
