2010 Greensomes - Ayr Seafield
Goldie/Montgomery (Team Rush) beat Bickley/Hoy (Team Tonner) 6&5

Derek and JimThe Team Tonner Celtic Combo of Welsh Wizard Dave “Wild Thing” Bickley and Derek “Puttmeister” Hoy were ruthlessly put to the sword as the faultless Team Rush pairing of Ryan “SeaCat” Montgomery and Jim “Ralph Malph’s Lovechild” Goldie proved that consistency was the key to successfully negotiating the tricky Seafield course.  A combination of poor chipping and putting from the Team Tonner pair allowed Team Rush to secure the first two holes.  There was a an all too brief chink of light for Bickley and Hoy as the Welsh gentle giant found the green at the par 3 third with an impressive tee shot and Hoy secured the birdie with a 25 footer that had to be seen to be believed.

This success was all to short lived however as Team Tonner’s inconsistency off the tee landed them in trouble time and again.  Bickley struggled on manfully but his impressive length was not enough to make amends for his partner’s inadequacies, who was finding form hard to come by.  Montgomery and Goldie on the other hand could not miss a fairway and provided no opportunities for Bickley and Hoy to chip away at their lead.  This was as impressive a display as had been seen at this level in the Beve Trophy and Team Tonner could not argue with the margin of victory as a crushing defeat was sealed at the 13th.

The only consolation for Bickley and Hoy was knowing that they had at least bettered the worst ever defeat in Beve Trophy history of 7&6 – suffered by none other than Jim Goldie himself in the inaugural event back in 2008.
