The Matches - Match 32

2010 Fourballs - Ayr Belleisle
Goldie/Kealey, J (Team Rush) beat Hoy/Lee (Team Tonner) 4&3

The deadly duoNothing could have prepared the Hoy/Lee partnership for the scintillating form (and cheating) of Team Rush stalwart and Beve Trophy top performer Jim Goldie in what was a ray of light on an otherwise dark day for Team Rush.  Hoy’s poor form from that morning’s crushing 6&5 greensomes defeat continued into the first two holes of this match and disaster looked to be on the cards.  Lee battled manfully to make up for his partner’s woes but could not stop the Goldie/Kealey juggernaut storming to a two hole lead after the first two holes.

What happened next though made a mockery of the lowly seedings of these four gallant competitors as they tore up this challenging course.  Goldie turned in the performance of his life taking his team to a 5 hole lead but Hoy and Lee refused to let the aerodynamically headed holing machine out of their sights and fought back like rabid dogs to reduce the lead to 3, with Hoy seemingly unable to miss a putt from over 20ft.  However, Hoy and Lee’s best efforts could not ultimately hold off Goldie’s hot streak and despite being on the ropes Goldie and Kealey sealed the match at the 15th.

Shame was later poured on the Team Rush pair though when it was revealed that Goldie claimed two shots on his opponents that only his partner Kealey was entitled to and the moral victory went to the more deserving Team Tonner combatants.
