Darragh Hare aka Silverback
Dr Hare had the honour of hitting the first shot in Beve history in 2008. The white line shows where he put it. Peter Alliss has had a look and placed an arrow where it should have gone. An ignominious start for the competition.
This one at Glasgow Gailes was much better.
My Beve Profile Name Darragh Hare aka Silverback
Favourite Beve Moment Lifting the Beve Trophy as part of the first ever winning team; a momentous occasion in the history of world sport.
Worst Beve Moment The agony of watching McGill’s putt for the trophy on 18 at Darley in 2008 being deflected by a rock thrown at it by Captain Rush.
Your Best Shot in the Beve An 8-iron from a hanging lie to six feet on the 16th at Dullatur Antonine in the BT2K9 morning greensomes. This shot put to bed the valiant but ultimately insufficient challenge by Bilton and Clark.
Best Shot by an opponent A few stand out. Mo’s approach to the 5th at Darley in the 2008 greensomes; his 6-iron on the par-3 6th on Lochgreen in the afternoon; his drive to twelve feet on the par-4 13th later in the same round; and a whole load of putts by Bobert around the turn on Carrickstone in the afternoon at Dullatur in 2009. In all honesty though, the shots that have harmed us and helped my opponents most have been my duffs... and of course Seasick Steve’s lamentable putting on Carrickstone.
Toughest Beve Opponent Rob Bilton. Started with two double-bogeys in the greensomes in 2009 and played the last sixteen in level par – pretty difficult to compete with that. It was especially impressive given that he carried his clubs throughout in an unfeasibly small bag.
Favourite Beve Story Either Kev forgetting to change back into his golf shoes for the afternoon round in 2009 or Andy and Ryan making Scott W play from a rabbit hole on Lochgreen in 2008. Oh, and Ryan’s Jules Verne-esque travel to the 2008 event.
Sum up the Beve in one word Thirsty.
