Bilton/Weir (Team Tonner) beat Hare/Law (Team Rush) 3&2
A game remembered as much for its hilarity as the quality of its golf. Bilton and Weir demonstrated exactly how a good fourball pairing should dovetail, with Weir parring the first two and Bilton playing the remaining sixteen holes in level par.
The match was squared by consecutive birdies by Hare on the par-5s round the turn, and a series of very accurate iron shots by Law applied more pressure early in the back nine. But a failure by Hare and Law to capitalise on good approach shots meant they would never match the sensational form of Bilton, and the game finished with a fizzle when both Team Rush players failed to match Weir’s par at the 16th.
