Grieve/Hare (Team Tonner) beat Mitchell/Rush (Team Rush) 3&1
The first match of BT2KX saw Team Tonner come out on top in a match they led from start to finish. A beautiful first shot of the day from resident starter Darragh (after two crap ones in 2008 and 2009) gave them the lead on the first hole and they never fell behind.
The early stages saw some great iron shots from Darragh and some good putts from Stuart meant that Team Rush had to pull out all the stops to stay in the match. However, Mitchell and Rush clung on like Jack Russells and, despite Stuart holing a few more crucial putts to stem the fightback, pulled the match back to all square on the 14th. Two crap tee shots on the par 3 15th let their opponents retake the lead and they pulled away to close out a deserved win on the 17th.
Mitchell’s local knowledge proved handy, although he upset his captain by sharing this knowledge with his opponents. “I’d rather tell you what to avoid, and beat you fair and square” he told them. “F*ck that”, thought Captain Kev as they trudged off the 17th green.
