2011 Pish Cup Winners

Steve Law and Ally Mitchell

Face of the Pish Cup in 2010; winner of the Pish Cup in 2011. That was the fate of Seasick Steve Law as he picked up the least coveted prize in golf following a mauling in the morning greensomes. In a year where the overall winning margin was the biggest in Beve history, there were curiously few maulings. While the 2010 edition had featured a plethora of pumpings, 2011 saw a record number of games go the distance. Not for Steve and Ally though.

Two of the tournament’s most popular players they may be, but Steve and Ally came perilously close to matching the record 7&6 defeat suffered by Goldie and Kealey in 2008 as Grievesy and Andy swept them aside in fine style. Andy’s day of Beve brilliance is well documented here so in the interests of keeping James’s blood pressure at a relatively safe level, we won’t go on about how well Mr Young played. Suffice it to say, 13 holes was enough to put the fancied combo of Law and Mitchell back in their box and hand them a cup which, ironically enough, bore a picture of Andy on the front. Delightful.

Although disappointed that two of his players had taken such a beating, Captain Tonner was somewhat relieved. His 4&3 defeat in the afternoon was the second biggest of the day. To his opposing captain. That would almost certainly have been the end of the Beve Trophy.

Ally’s delight at winning his first piece of silverware at the Beve was suitably demonstrated when he “accidentally” smashed it the following day. With Big Steve moving house the next day, it’s certain the Pish Cup was well wrapped to make sure the removal men treated it with appropriate care and attention…
