2009 Greensomes - Dullatur Antonine
McGill/Young (Team Tonner) beat Parker/Thomson (Team Rush) 4&3

McGill takes a break between shotsBeve Classic

Everyone knows that the story of the day at Dullatur was the legend that is Stephen McGill and his ‘fall out a taxi and straight onto the first tee’ incident but few know of the round that followed.

As the four of McGill, Young, Parker and Thomson set out from the first tee all hitting good drives, little did we know that the effects of McGill’s night out would only serve to strengthen his game. An early hole win for Team Rush was a false dawn and some woeful shots by Parker (one of which ended up with the ball disappearing into a densely wooded area) meant that Team Tonner were in danger of winning this match at a canter. McGill could do no wrong off each and every tee, Parker on the other hand struggled to find his game – the pressure of the Beve debut proving too much – but Team Tonner were too strong for Thomson to compete with on his own.

Team Rush pulled together and started to play well on the back nine but there was nothing they could do against McGill and his ability to hit consistently straight drives off each tee. Combining this with Young’s good control round the green meant that Team Tonner coasted to a 4 & 3 victory.
