Liddell/E. Tonner (Team Tonner) beat Parker/Strain (Team Rush) 1UP
Following the epic battles of the morning Greensomes Parker was once again facing up against Liddell and Strain was opposite E. Tonner for the second time in the day. Tonner was on a high after his morning escapades where he romped to a 6 and 5 victory over Strain but Strain was out for revenge. Would the change of partners improve things for Team Rush – the answer was… evidently not.
A shocking slice off the first tee by Parker meant that the pressure was immediately off Team Tonner, but some bunker fun for Team Tonner meant that Parker managed to salvage a tie with an 8. Neither member of this Team Rush group was able to produce a lasting sequence of good shots but Team Tonner wasn’t able to capitalise and struggled to 2 up after 7. A great birdie from Parker at the 8th and par from Strain at the 9th clawed it back to level at the turn.
The back nine was an edgy contest with Liddell continuing his good form around the greens from the morning. Team Tonner edged ahead going 2 up after 14 with both Liddell and Tonner combining to provide difficult competition for Team Rush. After trading holes at the 15th and 16th Team Tonner were dormie 2 and it was all over bar the shouting. A sustained effort by Team Rush to hold on for the draw took the tie up the 18th but a badly overhit putt by Parker meant that the point went to Team Tonner.
