2010 Fourballs - Ayr Belleisle
Bickley/Young (Team Tonner) beat McGill/Montgomery (Team Rush) 6&5

Ryan couldn't believe what was happening“Don’t worry about this, we’ll win this game no bother”, said Stephen McGill to his captain as he walked to the first tee.  “It’s effectively 4 ½ v 2 ½”.  He seemed right to be confident, having fought back gamely in the morning to secure a half from 2 down with 3 to play.  In addition, Bickley had been taken apart by Montgomery in the morning, going down to a 6&5 mauling in the greensomes.  What could possibly go wrong?

13 holes later and we had the answer.  Dave Bickley played beautiful golf from the first hole to the last, as the effects of 3 Stellas before lunch started to affect McGill’s game – and his vision.

This was a one-man destruction as Bickley played a round which would have probably been good enough to win just about any match on the course. But that didn’t stop Andy Young wearing a smile as wide as the margin of victory for the rest of the night.  In Andy’s mind, he had beaten Ryan.  Not just beaten him, but thrashed him.  Annihilated him.  Flipped him over and….well you know.  And that’s all that mattered.

Luckily for McGill and Montgomery, they made Bickley hole out a short putt which would have made the winning margin 7&6 and won them the coveted Pish Cup.  He missed, and they at least managed to dodge that bullet.

Their reprieve was short lived however, and with their team needing a point for victory, Dave and Andy sealed Team Tonner’s first ever Beve Trophy win.

Interestingly, they played the remaining holes for money and McGill suddenly found his form again.  Funny that.
