The Matches - Match 3

2008 Greensomes - Troon Lochgreen
Montgomery/Young (Team Rush) beat Tonner, J/Wilson (Team Tonner) 2up

RyanThis game should have been the first ever game of the Beve Trophy but Montgomery decided to miss his flight to Glasgow and the rest is history. Kicking off third then the first hole was halfed in bogey after Ryan hit a crow with his second shot and thus became the first player in Beve history to hit a birdie. A tight affair throughout, Ryan somehow managed to keep his team ahead in the first half of the game despite his partner's massive hangover and general terrible play. Young having been out the night before in one of his many failed attempts to pull a Primary School Teacher.

The player of the match was undoubtedly Ryan with some spectacular play throughout with Captains Tonner's reassurance to Wilson that Ryan 'would not play like this all the way round' being totally false as he hit good shot after good shot while Young managed to luckily top every approach shot 120yards on to the green. The opposition were beginning to think that it was one of those days when you never quite get on terms on a match and spend it on the verge of getting back to even but it never quite happens.

The quality of the play was quite high with par or bogey being enough to keep Team Rush on top but with only a narrow lead throughout the game. The game entered the 16th with Monty/Young one up and a tricky par five to negotiate. Tonner/Wilson played it well and were on the green with a birdie putt with the opposition well off the green in 3 and looking like going up the 17th all square. Young then broke the hearts of James and Scott by putting his putt to within 1 inch and saving it going all square. The 17th was a hole to forget with both teams hacking up the fairway so one down with one to play Tonner/Wilson played a terrible 18th to leave Montgomery/Young with victory 2up. This also allowed Team Rush to take an early 3-1 lead in the morning Greensomes confounding Captain Tonner's inner thoughts that he fancied his teams in all games apart from the one they actually won!
