The Matches - Match 22

2010 Greensomes - Ayr Seafield
Thomson/Tonner, J (Team Tonner) beat Law/Walker (Team Rush) 4&3

Scott and James were the best of enemiesNow this was without doubt the most important game of Tonner and Thomson's Beve careers as they both knew that defeat was not acceptable when paired with your brother in law who would remind you of your pish putts and drives for months afterwards. The game started off with both teams making pars at the first with Walker sinking a nice 12 footer after Steve had left his first putt short (the legacy of playing Cawder on Tuesday I believe). The next was won with a par after Law played a nice chip to the green. Tonner then found the green at the next and after a nice lag put by Thomson parity was restored. The 4th was halved after a terrible three putt from Team Tonner but a shot got them out of trouble. The next was halved in birdie after a nice chip by Tonner that made him realise that he needed to buy some better golf balls after checking up Thomson's Nike ball to one foot.

The 6th was a classic Greensomes hole with the first partner playing a conservative drive and the other going for the green. Steve found the green with his drive and the hole was won in birdie for Team Rush to go one up with back to back birdies. The next few holes saw the steady and straight Tonner/Thomson combination winning over the hit it and rip it of Law/Walker. Walker attempts to play it safe were greeted with the immortal line of 'I can see your vagina from here' half way through his back swing (incidently Walker/Law lost that hole). Local knowledge then played a massive part with Thomson in great form and by the time the game reached the 15th Team Tonner was four up with four to play and looking dead certs. Thomson found the water at the 15th but Tonner hit a nice iron on to the green and after a safe putt hands were shaken for a 4&3 victory. Tonner and Thomson congratulated each other on a job well done and tried to hide how relieved they were that they had not taken a humping that neither of them would be allowed to forget.
